About Tice

Tice Cin is an interdisciplinary artist from North London. She experiments in the space of portals. She has an MA in English: Issues in Modern Culture from UCL. Tice has been commissioned by organisations like Cartier, St. Paul’s Cathedral and Montblanc. Her debut novel Keeping the House (2021) was named one of Guardian’s Best Books of 2021, and has been featured in The Scotsman, The New York Times and the Washington Post. She is a recent recipient of a Society of Authors Somerset Maugham Prize, and was shortlisted for Book of the Year at the British Book Awards and the Desmond Elliot Prize, among other accolades. In June 2024, Cin was selected by the British Council and National Centre for Writing as one of their ILX 10 which showcases 10 writers of prose, poetry, creative non-fiction, and those working across intersections of form whose work has the powerful potential to speak to and engage with global literary audiences. It forms part of a three-year programme called the International Literature Exchange.

Cin was named one of Complex Magazine’s best music journalists of 2021 and 2022, and has written for places such as DJ Mag and Mixmag. Cin is the founder of interdisciplinary discovery vehicle, label and production company Neoprene Genie. Neoprene Genie has its roots in working within her communities to plug talented people into new rooms. Cin and her team at Neoprene Genie have produced films, curated community parties with the likes of Scorcher outside Edmonton Green Station, creative directed and produced print-magazine editorials and more. Neoprene Genie has collaborated with numerous partners, including Mixcloud, BBC Radio 4, No Vista, Enfield Council and Spread the Word. The aim is to make something ‘wished up’ out of nothing, increasingly important to her amidst the ruptures of systemic bias and institutional wealth gaps globally.

A DJ and music producer, her mixtape for Keeping the House with a host of talented features including those from the creative house she is part of, Fwrdmtn, such as Kareem Parkins-Brown and Latekid, along with remixes from people like Ikonika and KEMANCI. A filmmaker, she has had her films screened at film festivals by the likes of Girls in Film and Worms Magazine. Her BBC Radio 4 documentary How Much Can You Say? (2024) won an Audio Production Award.

Tice has been a judge on numerous literature and music prizes, including DJ Mag’s Album of the Year and Best of British Awards, the Dylan Thomas Prize 2024, and Spread the Word’s Early Career Bursary.
